Wireless setup was easy using WPS. Up and running in just a few minutes. Download the driver from the Canon site and ignore the CD to assure that you have the latest version. Very quick first page: only a second or two to warm up. Effortless duplexing. Output is typically laser-perfect. Unlike many other brands, the toner cartridge is the only consumable (other than paper) and generics are very affordable. One big feature omission is the lack of AirPrint support. That makes mobile printing much more difficult than it needs to be. Download their app (confusingly named for business printing) and you can print from your iOS device as long as it’s a file or a website accessible via that app. Good luck with emails (unless you take a screenshot and edit out the garbage around the document itself) and with any but the simplest websites, since its browser doesn’t support tabs or other advanced features. For what I’m sure wouldn’t cost more than a few cents, Canon could have included this feature.I was SO sick of the hassle and expense of ink jet printing, and I had no need for color. For the life of me, I could not find a monochromatic inkjet printer! Do they even exist??? When I saw this name brand laser printer for $150, I had to take the chance, despite a good deal of negative reviews. Well, I got stuck right away on a problem where the activity LED just kept blinking while attempting to set up the printer. So I called Canon tech support and got through to a tech in less than a minute. He was patient and kind and easily solved my problem.. which, of course, was user error. My printer has been working wirelessly and beautifully ever since. I've even had my power go out all night, and the printer was still connected to my wifi the next day. Really great printing detail, and rich blacks, especially on signs with pictures and diagrams. I don't do a lot of printing, but what I need to print is important, and I need it when I need it. No more rushing to the corner store to pay outrageous fees for a few pages of print, that alone is worth the $150. Thanks Canon, for a nice product, and great customer service...I am a highly experienced client support specialist and this printer install is pretty confusing. They have it setup like it's 2005 or something. The printer seems decently nice. I've setup Canon printers a few times before, and they usually run very reliably, but have confusing network setups. This printer is no exception. I knocked one star off for the confusing network setup. Other manufacturers are usually easier than this.I'll write a rough set of instructions below for Windows. Bear in mind, I'm writing this from memory since I setup this printer at my uncle's house.-----What you need to do is toss the CD in the trash since you likely don't have a CD-ROM drive anyway. Then search google for "LBP623dw drivers"Then go to "drivers and downloads" and download the recommended driver.Double click on it to extract it, then navigate to the folder it creates in the same directory with the same name and open it. Then open the "Network_setting_tool" folder and double click the .exe file in there.Select the "wireless LAN connection" radio button, then click next. Then say you want to configure the network settings and click nextThen select "easy setup" and click next (this will walk you through connecting your printer via WPS. I honestly couldn't get manual setup via USB to work properly when I tried, but you might have better luck).Follow the prompts to connect your printer to your network via WPS.- It basically involves holding down the wifi button on the front of your printer until it starts flashing. Then run over to your router and press the WPS button on the router to make a connection (sometimes it takes a minute or two to make a connection)- Some routers won't have a WPS button, but they still might support WPS, but you'll have to login to your router to activate it, which I won't detail here.Once your printer is connected the flashing WPS light goes solid.THENGo back to the driver package directory you downloaded and open the "UFRII" folder, then "us_eng," then "x64" (unless you know you are on a 32-bit system, which you probably are not)Then run the setup.exe and use the "standard" optionThen provided you were successful in connecting your printer to your network, this should scan your network and find your printer, and allow you to install the drivers and add the printer by following the prompts.----You're supposed to be able to connect the printer to your computer with the including USB A to B cable (many wifi printers don't come with one of these anymore, so big plus to Canon), then run the network setup utility and enter your wifi information, but I spent about five or ten minutes trying to get this to work and the program just wouldn't see my printer. It even crashed a couple times. It might be easier for some people to connect the printer directly to their router with an ethernet cable, then navigate to it's IP address to get to the printer configuration page and configure wifi and then move it somewhere else, but I didn't test this, or confirm it actually works. This is just a standard way of doing it with most types of printers. The instructions that came with the printer did not make any of this clear. Luckily, I've setup printers like this dozens of times, but most people have not. It's like Canon still expects users to have CD-ROM drives.Downloading a driver on this printer was the most complicated I have encountered in working on a computer. But with the help of the Canon's Tech Support everything works perfectly.Even after the driver was already installed there was still no communication between the PC and printer until a designated port were assigned. It took >30 minutes for everything to work.BTW, my last Laser printed lasted more than 26 years, yet it is still working but a piece broke.Exactly what I was looking for! Easy to set up, has a usb plug so I didn’t have to fuss with a wifi connection and printer is fast and good quality. Came with a CD, but I just installed the drivers directly on my laptop once I plugged in to my computer via USB port. This seems to have been a GOOD choice. I was going to go with Samsung again, but--lately--their models have jumped up to about 2X the price...YIKES!!! So far, no problems with this one. Heck, it even prints on TWO sides!!! ; )Bought this Canon because it’s a quality brand and have had good luck before with their inkjet printers. But this model does not work with Macs/iPhones/iPads-at least not well, in spite of the specs saying it is compatible. First it doesn’t have AirPrint and while there is a Canon app, it’s very limited. Second the print density is very light when printing grayscale images, e.g., in a spreadsheet where the alternating rows are lighter in density. There are no settings in the driver to adjust this; I called Canon tech support. The Mac driver appears to be an afterthought. It appears the Windows driver is much more robust. For these reasons I am returning the printer and will get a Brother laser with AirPrint.
